Black Rock Cafe - The essence of Kalbarri

Welcome to Black Rock Cafe

Black Rock Cafe was established in 1999 by John Molcher who is the chef and owner of this modern cafe and restaurant which looks out over Gantheume Bay, where the Murchison River meets the Indian Ocean.

At the channel entrance a natural reef is formed and in February 1984, after a violent storm, a large pointed black rock became visible, presumably rising from the reef below the sea.

This rock is now used as a crucial navigational aid to mark the channel entrance for Kalbarri's fishing fleet and the many boating enthusiasts who frequent Kalbarri on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, when the river floods the entrance silts up and the river can be land locked. On these rare occasions a sand bar forms and extends to the Black Rock which can then be reached by foot instead of boat!

You can see magnificent ocean patterns, fishing boats, the sunrise as well as spectacular sunsets from the Cafe, looking towards the Black Rock as you sip your drink and take time to relax and unwind.

We have named the Black Rock Cafe after this natural beauty, so please visit our licensed cafe for a drink, cocktail or a very good meal and say "g'day" to John and the friendly team, as you relax in superbly comfortable surroundings.
